Emotional Therapy through Art

 

What is Art Therapy?

 

Art therapy is an Emotional therapy making use of artistic materials and the creative process. Creating something enables one to give expression to deep and sometimes hidden emotional layers.

The purpose of therapy is to expand the vocabulary of emotional expression, to expose the inner world, and to help the client achieve a better self-understanding.

The creative part of an individual is a healthy part, and connecting with their creativity enables the discovery of positive inner strengths. Focusing on these strengths and engaging them, fortifies their emotional makeup for dealing with difficulties.

 

The language of art is a personal language created from individual images which reveale the client's inner world. Reflecting on a creation of theirs enables a client to experience a visual meeting with their work, and to talk about the ideas that this encounter arouses.

 

The therapy is suited for everyone, whether or not they have previous experience with art.
